Arbitration costs

The cost for a “documents only” arbitration is £100 plus VAT for the consumer and £395 plus VAT for the trader.

Arbitrations that require a site visit - if the arbitrator decides that a site visit is required, the consumer will pay 20% of the overall cost and the trader will pay 80% of the overall cost. The cost must be reasonable. If the consumer is successful in the decision of the arbitration, the arbitrator may award all or part of the site visit cost back to the consumer. The trader is not normally entitled to payment for any fees or site visit costs paid by the consumer.

Each party shall bear its own costs of legal representation, preparing and submitting its case. No legal action may be brought to recover these costs.

The arbitrator may award that the trader shall reimburse the consumer their registration fee if the consumer is successful in the decision of the arbitration.
